TS MASTER, you are forgetting the fact that all previous work of Free Radical design may NOT have been part of the acquisition deal. We don't know yet that Crytek has obtained any of the IPs (TimeSplitters, Second Sight, Haze, ect) There has been no official statement on anything yet, just the assumption that all projects they where working on are continuing.

Furthermore, with the loss of some of the team, who knows how much of the already existing development stays around. They very well may have to start from scratch using the Cryengine 3

Until we get any official word from Crytek, EVERYTHING about TimeSplitters 4 is pure speculation. Doesn't sound very reassuring, I know, but it's just facts, and we here at TimeSplitters4.net get them right and don't fabricate them.

you guys are very slow, aren't you?
Officially confirmed that all major FR IP's were part of the deal
Crytek PR Manger Jens Schäfer has confirmed to Voodoo Extreme that the studio's purchase of Free Radical Design included the TimeSplitters intellectual property:

Could you clarify whether Crytek also purchased rights to Timesplitters 4 and other Free Radical I.P.?

Yes, the rights for their major IPs now belong to Crytek.

The takeover means that, along with the studio, Crytek now owns the rights to all the major intellectual property that previously belonged to Free Radical -- including the popular TimeSplitters franchise, for which Free Radical had plans before their recent troubles -- but Yerli doesn't have any word on what might become of that just yet. "At this early stage we're looking into all possibilities, but it's just too early to say," he says, adding that Crytek will be taking a close look at the projects which were underway at the studio before the changes happened, and then making decisions together with the development team.

Is a reference to FRD developing TS4, not Crytek. While it is nice to know Crytek COULD continue TS4's production if they chose to, the real issue is that there has been no evidence that production has continued at all since FRD's collapse, and there has been no mention (as far as i'm aware) that Crytek has any intention to continue development in the future. All we have is hints rumours and alot of speculation.

THIS is what I've been waiting for. While it still doesn't confirm the development of TimeSplitters 4 right now as RobJ has pointed out, it does at least give hope that we may yet see the game come into existence.

Crytek's console plans are no secret. The company's job listings have revealed open positions for console development, and CryENGINE 2 tech has been showcased for PS3 and Xbox 360. Free Radical's familiarity with console shooters likely sweetened the deal, as Crytek had become known as a PC-centric developer.

That article summarized the situation very nicely. Crytek wants to expand into the console first person shooter, and who better then some of the people who helped create and solidify it then the folks at former FRD.

Why would they buy the ips if they weren't gonna do nothing with them?

My guess is that firstly they bought them so that no one else could continue development as this could have harmful effects on Crytek.

Secondly, so that if their own plans for consoles fail horribly they have something radically different and quite well established to fall back on as a last resort.

That said, i seriously hope you are right and there are (unannounced) plans to develop TS4 in due course

The problem with Crytek is that they never try anything different, they just keep releasing the same regurgitated game, but just under a different title; such as Crysis and Far Cry. Even if Crytek do help release TS4, they will probably call it CrySplitters 4. Lots of people such as myself are getting tiresome of these generic first-person shooters, which is why TS has always been a great game to play because it is the most un-generic FPS I've ever played. TS4 would be too good of an opportunity for Crytek to miss.

To find out some more information, somebody could ask Graeme Norgate what's happening with TS4. I suppose it would be a little rude, but it's just a suggestion. He will take a little while to reply. I sent him a message on MySpace asking permission to use his music on a video. He said yes, of course. He is just awesome like that.

A bit off topic but i don't see Crytek continuing Ts4 unless they are forced into it as they have established their company as a serious FPS developer with emphasis on graphics, even if at the expense of gameplay. Timesplitters on the other hand is the exact opposite.
I don't think Crytek will continue TS4 until they realize that the "ultra-high end graphics" niche is not sustainable on consoles.

Not only would I not want to think that, but I doubt it to.  Why?  For starters, "I'm very happy with excitement" and for two, it would be bad for business.  I'm pretty sure that they want a cut us TS fans' money and that they know that TimeSplitters was FRD's most successful franchise.  Personally, I think that once Crysis 2 is out, TS4 will probably become one of their top priorities.  Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they work on pushing TS4's publisher to putting up some adds, for once.

Maybe CryTech will approach TS4 as a chance to do something completly diffrent, and take that chance.

I hope that's the case, but i am seriously concerned that a company like Crytek would see a game as silly as Timesplitters as being so silly it would hurt their company's reputation if they released it.

That said, if Crytek wanted to show they were versatile and weren't going to constrain themselves to the Crysis series and similar projects, TS4 could be a good option.

Either way, i have my fingers crossed and hope my skepticism is misplaced
